Summary:
Rush University Medical Center is seeking a *Technical Documentation Engineer* to help bridge the gap between complex IT infrastructure and clear, accessible documentation. In this key role, you will collaborate with engineers, IT teams, and stakeholders to develop and maintain technical documentation that supports both internal teams and end users.
You’ll be responsible for creating user-friendly materials—including system diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), infrastructure overviews, and knowledge base articles—that translate highly technical content into practical, understandable resources. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organizing information, improving clarity, and enabling others through great documentation.
Rush is seeking a detail-oriented engineer to develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation for our IT infrastructure. This role is essential in ensuring accurate, clear, and accessible documentation of systems, processes, technical architects, and best practices for IT teams, engineers, and end users. Responsibilities:
* Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation, including server/application architectures, system configurations, cloud/hybrid infrastructure, and operational procedures.
* Collaborate with IT teams, engineers, and stakeholders to gather information and translate technical concepts into clear documentation.
* Create and manage documentation for standard operating procedures (SOPs), incident response plans, and departmental recovery processes.
* Ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards and company policies.
* Develop user guides, FAQs, and knowledge base articles to support IT teams and end users.
* Maintain version control and manage document repositories for easy accessibility.
* Assist in developing training materials and onboarding documentation for Infrastructure colleagues.
* Creation of root cause analysis documentation for infrastructure specific issues.
* Continuously improving documentation processes to enhance usability and efficiency.
* Adhere to best practices, tools, and processes for developing a comprehensive documentation system.
* Participate in the development and implementation of Rush’s knowledge base repository.
* Establish and conduct periodic reviews of Rush’s technical documentation.
* Design, build, and deploy application infrastructure in accordance with architectural guidelines.
* Understanding of HA architecture (clustering, RAC, ADG, fail over etc.), multiple DC architecture, multi-cloud integration.
* Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol and firewalls
* Knowledge of Virtual Machines and Container concepts.
Position Requirements
* Bachelors degree and 4+ years in IT infrastructure, technical writing, or related fields OR High School Diploma/GED and 8 years experience
* Strong understanding of cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-prem infrastructure concepts.
* Proven experience in IT technical writing, infrastructure documentation, or a related role.
* Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components, including networking, servers, cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), and security.
* Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, Draw.io, or similar technology.
* Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
* Experience with automation tools, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code (IaC) documentation is a plus.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
* Experience with MCP, MCSE on Windows 2016, and 2019 is preferred.
* ServiceNow experience.
* AWS/Azure/GCP certifications or relevant observability certifications.
* Familiarity with ITIL practices.
* Security, Privacy, and Regulatory/HPIAA Compliance
* Healthcare Environment Experience
