Summary: REACH Interns participate in a job shadowing career development summer session, Monday through Friday under the direct instruction of professionals from various departments within the RUMC facility, including: Medical Center Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Nursing units, Alzheimer Disease Center, LADS, Marketing and Communications/Graphic Design, Behavioral Sciences, etc. Interns learn how to perform job-specific tasks while gaining an understanding of day-to-day operations within their assigned department. Required Job Qualifications: •Student must have a GED or high school diploma •Must be enrolled in an accredited community college or 4-year university •Preferred health science or STEM major •Should display high level leadership skills, work ethic, and appropriate ethical and professional behaviors •Should possess basic computer skills and knowledge •Excellent written and verbal communication skills •Self-directed and able to work without supervision •Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and idea •Exceptional customer service skills; should be enthusiastic, friendly, dependable, and flexible Responsibilities: •Medical Center Engineering: Students assist department staff as they operate, maintain, repair, inspect and upgrade/improve all of the Medical Center buildings and the related systems/equipment, for example: Electrical systems, Carpentry, Painting, HVAC, Plumbing, Inventory Control, etc. •Clinical Engineering: Students assist department staff with proper management of diagnostic, therapeutic, and life support equipment, including: new equipment inventory and safety test; maintain device histories of individual pieces of equipment; repair and scheduled maintenance of all patient diagnostic, therapeutic, and life support equipment here at Rush. •Nursing units: Students perform specific tasks in various units that assist in increased patient satisfaction and improved patient experience; units include: NICU, Case Management, OR, ER, Mother/Child, 9 North, Oncology outpatient, Child Psych/Day school, PAR, Interventional Radiology, Hospital Administration, etc. •Teaching Aid Assistant: Helps establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment, advance physical and intellectual competencies, support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance, establish positive and productive relationships with families, and maintain a commitment to professionalism. •Marketing and Communications/Graphic Design: Student assists department staff as they manage Rush's marketing, advertising and branding efforts. The office is responsible for public relations, including media relations and internal communications; and oversight of the University's and Medical Center's websites. •Alzheimer Disease Center: Under supervision, student conducts a variety of established functions to engage diverse communities in Alzheimer’s disease outreach, education and research. The student will assist with outreach events and activities for older adults centered on the topics of healthy aging and Alzheimer’s disease. •Information Systems: Student will perform simple projects using basic computer skills. Physical Demands: •Physical strength, resilience and endurance are three key bodily traits that are required due to the vigorous work pace of daily repetitive tasks and the weight of the merchandise. •Majority of workday is spent on feet lifting, pushing, pulling, walking distances on daily repetitive basis. •Must be able to lift weights up to 50lbs and within 10-25lbs repetitively on a daily basis. Responsibilities: • Inclusive of all Supply Chain Tech 1 duties (i.e. SPD, Receiving, EVS (Supply Chain Tech) and Warehouse): • Work with the Supply Chain Analyst to receive, deliver, stock and replenish EVS supply closets across the Medical Center and off-site locations. • Will utilize hand-held to • Receive, pack and unpack items to be stocked and/or delivered on shelves/bins/Point of Use locations (i.e. in the warehouse, storerooms, units, and any off-site locations.) • Receive and/or count stock items with accuracy and correctly record data manually or using the computer. • Verify established inventory par levels by comparing them to actual physical counts and re-order replenishment stock accordingly) • Ensure accuracy of received supplies by counting and comparing packing lists/restock lists with delivered goods and inspect for damage, defects or breakage, reporting any of these issues to the supervisor. • Must meet established Supply Chain Policy #1 job performance standards and all scheduled timelines. • Loads and off loads AGV system supply carts and appropriately parks/stages carts for next utilization. Must also be able to use AGV system touch screen correctly to send cart types to scheduled location. • Clean and maintain shelves within stocking areas and in workstation areas to ensure compliance with safety and infection control regulations. • Answer all telephone calls in accordance to the department's telephone script ensuring calls are properly answered, appropriate actions are followed and in a timely manner.
