Pay Range: $23.12 - $36.41 per hour

Summary:
The Senior Ophthalmology Tech is also under the direction of the ophthalmology medical staff and must be able to perform all the duties of the Technician 1. The knowledge and skill sets are more extensive then the Technician 1 and are able to perform more complex testing and patient conditions. Takes initiative in directing the flow of the clinic, ordering medical/surgical supplies and managing process and patient issues. Incumbent is involved in training when necessary and oversees the activities of other ophthalmic technicians. The Senior Ophthalmology Tech participates in departmental research as needed. Required Job Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or equivalent.
•Certification required: JCAPHO Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) OR JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) with five years of relevant experience OR JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) with eight years of relevant experience.
•Extensive ophthalmic and ocular knowledge.
•Manual dexterity, effective communication, precision and accuracy.
•Solid communication skills with strong interpersonal skills to be able to work well with patients and all levels of staff.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
•Completion of a relevant bachelor’s degree and/or advanced medical training.
Responsibilities:
1. Triage. Reviews charts to determine urgency of condition and initiate care as necessary.
2. History and Examination. Collects all historical and physical data necessary for the medical staff to make clinical therapeutic decisions.
3. Performs additional measurements of phorias and tropias, near point of convergence, fusion. Familiar with tonography
4. Treatment. Designs care plans and implements treatment as delegated by the medical staff.
5. Diagnositc Testing. Expanded role includes adequate knowledge and expertise of all testing available at the center, e.g. topography, AB-scan ultrasonography, ERG (electroretinography), Visante OCT, GVF
6. Oversees and evaluates other ophthalmic technicians as assigned.
7. Maintains and updates EPIC EMR knowledge and skills including appointment scheduling.
8. Expertly take phone calls on eye issues including prescription renewal.
9. Trains other technical staff as needed.
10. Maintenance of instrumentation, supplies and drugs. Surveys technical instruments and equipment, implements repair, and arranges for service calls. Also inventories and orders supplies and drugs following protocol and as appropriate.
11. Research. Participates in research clinical trials as assigned including participating as a mask examiner, performing refraction, visual acuity, etc. Agrees to review the study documentation and certify for each study assigned.
12. Is able to competently assist, scrub, and circulate for all eye center procedures including Lasik surgery.
13. Education. Participates in intramural and extramural educational programs as a speaker and teaching assistant.
14. Must maintain CPR certification
