Summary:
The RN 1 is a beginning level nurse who utilizes a scientific and theoretical knowledge base along with policy and procedures, standards of care and protocols to guide practice. The RN 1 relies on the experience, judgment and support of others while developing knowledge in practice. Knowledge:
1.Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required.
2.Maintain current BLS certification.
3.Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) (New graduates must have acceptance into an accredited school of nursing within 6 months from date of hire,
4. Within 1 year from the date of hire, employee must be enrolled in a BSN program.
5. RNs hired prior to 10/22/2020 are grandfathered in with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or diploma in nursing, with no further need to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BAN or BSN).
6. Chief Nursing Officer must provide approval for any RNs with ADN degree hired after 10/22/2020, based upon unit need. ADN RNs hired after 10/22/2020 must show continued enrolment towards a BSN degree with a signature of contract stipulating a BSN degree must be completed within 3 years of hire, Failure to do so will result in termination. ADN RNS are not eligible for leveling to RN3.
Abilities:
1.Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
2.Work requires lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.
3.The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine specimens, images or reports is required.
4.Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.

2.Consistently has patient sign and scan all necessary documents for completion of the admission process; consent, ID, insurance card, MIMS, OBS, COB, etc.
3.Consistently and accurately obtains and interpret the patient's insurance benefits and possess the ability to communicate this information accurately to the patient and co-workers.
4.Has the ability to determine the patient's financial obligation and communicate this information accurately and with respect to the patient.
5.Performs registration functions consistent with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy and security Regulations, as well as JACHO.
6.Upon decision of patient’s admission, has the knowledge and skill to perform the admission notification (NOA) process which is a required communication with the patient’s payer to ensure that the payment for patient’s inpatient stay is secured.
7.Appropriately informs the patients of hospital policies that govern the revenue cycle. Minimizes the potential financial risk of patients accounts by discussing with the patient and/or guarantor their financial responsibility for upcoming visits/procedures, past due balances and referral requirements. Offers options and negotiates acceptable resolution of estimated patient balance.
8.Receives and properly responds to, or directs telephone inquiries from patients, payers, physicians and their staff, internal department and other persons and entities.
9..Ability to exercise good customer service skills when communicating with both our patients as well as our internal customers. Able to find resolution within the phone interaction satisfactory to the caller and/or having the knowledge when to escalate to their supervisor.

Responsibilities:
1.Answers all telephone calls within your work assignment as designated by your leadership with the goals of accurately scheduling patients as determined by departmental and Epic guidelines.
2.Evaluates non-scheduling related patient inquiries including clinical related calls; routes and escalates all inquiries following departmental and epic clinical guidelines inclusive of warm transfers to RN triage and/or to clinics.
3.Assesses the caller’s need and responds with critical judgment and ensures the appropriate resolution for the inquiry or issue. Understands when to escalate calls to nurse, and/or RUSH Access Center leadership.
4.Responsible for leveraging Salesforce and Genesys platforms to optimize patient interactions and workflow efficiency. Ensures accurate documentation, routing, and resolution of patient inquiries through integrated systems.
5.Proactively monitor areas of concern or uncertainty relating to the practices and suggest possible resolutions around access Epic build issues.
6.Exhibits strong understanding of specialized RUSH Access Center processes including but not limited to questionnaires, subgroups, auto search, pre-registration, message templates, radiology workflows, and referral capture and insurance plan networks.
7.Adheres to service specialized workflows for multiple specialty departments. Follows protocols built in Epic and documented practices scheduling requirements.
8.Responsible for accurately documenting appointment information and notifying the patient of information critical to their visit.
9.Drives and supports the RUSH revenue cycle by minimizing potential financial risk of patient accounts through patient insurance registration activities. This includes but is not limited to discussing the patient’s financial responsibility for their upcoming visit, outstanding balances, and referral requirements based on Rush contracts.
10.Effectively completes point of service collections over the phone using secure payment processing systems via multiple payment options, such as credit/debit cards and/or payment plans.
11.Maintains a high level of understanding and acts as a patient resource for physician and ancillary service offerings, navigating the Rush campus, payment categories, and the billing procedures of Rush University.
12.Exhibits sensitivity to patient health information and protects confidentiality. Always maintains privacy for patient and employee information.

Summary:
The Phlebotomist obtains blood specimens from patients by the invasive procedure of venipuncture. Once proficient in adult and geriatric venipuncture and with additional training, the phlebotomist performs skin puncture on neonates, skin puncture or venipuncture on children and adolescents. The phlebotomist is a liaison between the physician and Rush Medical Laboratories. The phlebotomist (Laboratory Liaison Technician) is responsible for collecting specimens for routine, timed and STAT collections. The phlebotomist interacts and communicates with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel and other members of the health care team. •Organization and Prioritization of Work15. Collects timed specimens within 30 minutes of scheduled time. Sends specimens via pneumatic tube to laboratory within 45 minutes of collection for routine collections; within 10 minutes for timed collections. Checks soiled utility rooms for specimens at the end of each sweep.
•Keeps work area, phlebotomy cart, and personal appearance, neat, clean, and organized.
•Stocks supplies at the appropriate level and does not overstock supplies. Replenishes supplies at the end of the shift.
•Notifies appropriate personnel (supervisor, physician, and nurse) of problems or unusual situations encountered, for example, missed collections and patient unavailability, promptly. Attempts to resolve problems thoroughly before reporting to a supervisor.
•Performs LIS order entry correctly. Double checks orders in computer versus requisition to avoid mistakes and order omissions.
•Performs specimen accessioning and specimen processing. Advises physicians and nurses on how to order and schedule specimen collections in Clinical Provider Order Entry (CPOE).
•Documents on the clipboard (NCC) and collection set labels for missed or delayed draws with rare exception.
•Collections, Cancels and reschedules laboratory orders via communication with ordering physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or nurse. Cancels and documents the same in LIS. Clears collection pending report at the end of shift.
•Participates willingly when asked to participate in special projects or events, for example health screenings and medical student phlebotomy training classes. Gathers data or examples of orders or specimen collections for recurrent problems, for example order modification process for CPOE/EPIC orders.
•Acts as "tech-in- charge for specified periods of time. Oversee operations according to departmental guidelines. Understands when to defer issues to appropriate personnel, for example a supervisor or director, and does so.
