OB/GYN Hospitalist

Rush Copley Medical Center, in Aurora, Illinois, part of the Rush University System for Health network of hospitals, invites applications for the position of OB/GYN Hospitalist.

Position Details:

•Full-time (1. 0 FTE): 14 shifts per month 

•Balanced Schedule: Evenly distributed day and night shifts 

                  oDay Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

                  oNight Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. 

•Part-time Flexibility: 0.50 FTE option also available 

•Predictable Scheduling: Consistent 12-hour shifts designed to support work-life balance 

Roles/Responsibilities:

•Clinical Coverage & Care Coordination: Provide timely evaluation, management, and continuity of care for obstetric patients        throughout triage, Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and the inpatient setting. 

•OB Emergency Department Consultation: Serve as the initial obstetric consultant for patients presenting to the OB Emergency Department at 20 weeks’ gestation or greater. 

•Triage Management: Evaluate and manage patients presenting to obstetric triage, including unassigned patients and patients receiving care from community providers with hospital privileges. 

•Care of Unassigned Patients: Assume responsibility for unassigned obstetric patients from admission through discharge, ensuring safe, coordinated, and comprehensive care.

•Labor & Delivery Support: Provide clinical support for urgent and emergent obstetric situations, including imminent deliveries, complications, and changes in patient status.

•Cesarean Delivery Support: Assist with urgent and unscheduled cesarean deliveries and provide first-assist support for scheduled cesarean deliveries when another qualified first assist is unavailable. 

•CNM Collaboration: Serve as physician backup to the Certified Nurse Midwife team for complications outside the CNM scope of practice or when cesarean delivery is indicated. 

•Physician Backup: Provide backup support to RMG physicians for patients who are imminently delivering when the primary  provider is occupied with another clinical responsibility.

•Inpatient Care: Collaborate with the Secondary OB Hospitalist to coordinate inpatient rounding and management of Labor & Delivery, postpartum, postoperative, and consult patients, with flexibility to facilitate timely discharges and changes in the plan of care. 

•Continuity & Handoffs: Participate in structured physician-to-physician handoffs at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure clear communication regarding unit acuity, patient status, and ongoing care plans. 

•Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with OB-GYN physicians, CNMs, nursing, Emergency Department providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to promote safe, efficient, high-quality obstetric care.

 Department/Division Specifics:

     •Over 2,500 deliveries annually 

     •Level III NICU with 27 Beds 

     •Top-notch VoluSon E10 machines that are fully integrated with Epic HER

      •Program supported by APRNs, ARDMS certified sonographers, diabetic educators, nutritionists, genetic counselors, and a full             team of neonatal and pediatric sub-specialists.

•Associates or Bachelor degree with a focus in Engineering (Electrical engineering preferred but not required) or must have completed a two-year course in biomedical equipment repair or electronics or any combination of training, education, and experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Summary:
The Social Work Care Mgr (CM) works with physician practices and inpatient teams to promote the effective utilization of services and coordination of patient centered care. The CM contributes to the team's effectiveness by reviewing plans of care, identifying barriers to effective and efficient utilization of resources, and appraising patients' psychosocial, financial and clinical needs throughout the continuum of care. The CM functions as a liaison between patients, physician practices, the hospital, and the community and ensures that patients' continuity of care and psychosocial needs are met. •Current license in Illinois as Social Worker (e.g,.LSW)
•Ability to perform all job components and serve as a team resource for socially or clinically complex cases within their professional expertise. (Social Work)
•1 year of experience (or completed internship) as a health care or mental health services provider for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and /or geriatric patient, and expert knowledge in case management, discharge planning, social service, and criteria application.

Responsibilities:
1. Functions as an expert clinical practitioner within the Case Management team and serves as a resource to assigned physician practice groups. Shares their professional expertise as a social worker and serves as a resource for CMs within their team to manage socially complex cases.
2. Provides basic assessment of patients' health care needs, monitors patients' progress, and confers with physician practice group and health care team regarding variances from the anticipated plan of care. Seeks assistance as needed regarding complex clinical care issues.
3. Provides and coordinates social services to patients and their families. Assesses patient's basic and in-depth psychosocial, financial, cultural, and family situation.
4. Manages a complex patient caseload and demonstrates expert ability to coordinate and implement discharge management services and provide continuity of care planning. Finds community resources for potential sources of assistance, maintains contact with community resources, and consults with physicians and inpatient groups regarding use of community resources
5. Reviews admissions and ongoing stays of patients with respect to the medical necessity, appropriateness, and quality of care. Applies criteria, performs concurrent review process. Works with physicians and Medical Director regarding Case issues and concurrent denials as indicated.
6. Applies pathways/guidelines, assesses variances, and proposes interventions as indicated. Participates in the development, implementations and evaluation of pathways/guidelines and process improvement plans.
7. Collaborates with inpatient staff and physician groups to determine goals for length of stay management and discharge management activities. Promotes cost-effective quality care services
8. Monitors and reports potential quality issues and makes recommendations when appropriate.
9. Utilizes the CM information system and appropriate technologies. Monitors variances and trends related to select goals. Assist CM team and hospital groups to develop action plans and address identified opportunities for improvement.
10. Promotes customer satisfaction among patients, families, physicians, external case managers, payors, vendors, and inpatient staff. Actively promotes ICARE principles.
11. Serves on hospital-wide and departmental committees when applicable.

With a high degree of accuracy collects, verifies and enters into Epic the patient's demographic, employer, financial, emergency contact, insurance, subscriber and case-specific information, such as referring physician and diagnosis.
2.Consistently has patient sign and scan all necessary documents for completion of the admission process; consent, ID, insurance card, MIMS, OBS, COB, etc.
3.Consistently and accurately obtains and interpret the patient's insurance benefits and possess the ability to communicate this information accurately to the patient and co-workers.
4.Has the ability to determine the patient's financial obligation and communicate this information accurately and with respect to the patient.
5.Performs registration functions consistent with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy and security Regulations, as well as JACHO.
6.Upon decision of patient’s admission, has the knowledge and skill to perform the admission notification (NOA) process which is a required communication with the patient’s payer to ensure that the payment for patient’s inpatient stay is secured.
7.Appropriately informs the patients of hospital policies that govern the revenue cycle. Minimizes the potential financial risk of patients accounts by discussing with the patient and/or guarantor their financial responsibility for upcoming visits/procedures, past due balances and referral requirements. Offers options and negotiates acceptable resolution of estimated patient balance.
8.Receives and properly responds to, or directs telephone inquiries from patients, payers, physicians and their staff, internal department and other persons and entities.
9..Ability to exercise good customer service skills when communicating with both our patients as well as our internal customers. Able to find resolution within the phone interaction satisfactory to the caller and/or having the knowledge when to escalate to their supervisor.
