Rush Heart & Vascular, part of the Rush University System for Health, is seeking a Director of the Heart Center for Women to join our nationally recognized cardiovascular team in downtown Chicago. This position includes an academic appointment within the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology. The role is ideal for a physician specializing in General/Non-Invasive Cardiology with a passion for advancing women’s cardiovascular health within a premier academic health system.
Position Highlights:
• Lead the continued growth and strategic vision of the Rush Heart Center for Women, across the Rush University System for Health, one of the first dedicated women’s heart programs in Chicago.
• Join Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges.
• Collaborate within a comprehensive and highly integrated cardiovascular program offering the full spectrum of advanced cardiac therapies, multidisciplinary specialty clinics, and innovative care models.
• Work alongside a collaborative team of experts across cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, advanced cardiac imaging, heart failure, preventive cardiology, and cardiovascular research.
• Provide leadership in the advancement of women’s cardiovascular health, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education, and research initiatives focused on sex-specific cardiovascular disease.
• Support the continued expansion of programs addressing the unique cardiovascular needs of women, including cardio-obstetrics, menopause-related cardiovascular risk, microvascular disease, preventive cardiology, atypical presentations of ischemic heart disease, and SCAD.
• Help advance awareness and management of cardiovascular conditions that uniquely affect women, including differences in risk factors, symptom presentation, disease progression, and outcomes.
• Contribute to a nationally recognized program co-founded by Annabelle Volgman that has served as a leader in women’s cardiovascular care for more than two decades.
• Opportunities for program development, clinical research and clinical trials involvement, quality improvement initiatives, community outreach, and academic leadership.
• Participate in the education and mentorship of cardiovascular fellows, residents, and medical students within a strong academic environment.
• Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and advancing equitable cardiovascular care for women.
Qualifications:
• Board certified in Cardiology, with an MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD, or equivalent.
• Qualified candidates must hold a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor level or, or possess credentials commensurate with appointment at that rank.
• Proven record of collaborative leadership and commitment to excellence in clinical care, research, and education.
• Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and mentorship within an academic health system.
About the Service Line:
The Heart & Vascular Service Line is a key component of the Rush System. This service line delivers comprehensive, compassionate care for cardiovascular conditions, leveraging cutting-edge research, advanced technologies, and a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and other specialists. Rush offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for virtually every type of adult heart and vascular condition. Services include general and preventive cardiology, advanced cardiovascular surgery, complex interventional services, electrophysiology, and advanced heart failure management. Specialized programs include The Rush Heart Center for Women, cardio-oncology, sports cardiology, cardio-genetics, and cardiometabolic care including The Rush Cardiometabolic Health Initiative. Patients also benefit from access to leading-edge diagnostics and participation in clinical research evaluating new treatments, devices, and procedures. It focuses on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for heart and vascular diseases, serving patients across Chicago, its western suburbs, Northwest Indiana, and the Aurora/Fox Valley region.

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, knowledge and skills; relevant experience and training; education, certifications, and licensure; primary work location; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role, as well as additional compensation such as sign-on and retention bonuses and relocation allowances. Opportunities for increased compensation based on exceeding productivity targets. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay Range: $415,000 – $550,000
