This role will primarily practice at Rush Oak Park Hospital with additional coverage at Rush’s downtown Chicago campus and its affiliate sites working within the Division of Plastic Surgery supporting physicians in the operating room and outpatient clinic, alongside seven other Advanced Practice Providers.

      *APRN candidates must be acute care certified with first-assist certification. Applicants with experience in Plastic Surgery or other surgical related experience preferred. Illinois state APRN or PA license required, Indiana preferred.

      The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the Rush University Medical Center medical staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

      Position Summary:

      The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provider all aspects of care including acute care, well care and chronic care in the urgent care setting for patients of all ages.

      Nurse Practitioner:

      • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse

      • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position

      Summary:

      Responsibilities:

      15.Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.
      16.Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician.
      17.Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol.
      18.Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards.
      19.Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
      20.Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
      21.Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies.
      22.Maintains quality control for equipment.
      23.Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.

      Summary:

      The position supports the Office of Research Affairs' Clinical Research Administration Division, their clinical department / division, and in partnership with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator(s), other study personnel, and sponsoring agents to ensure protocols are conducted in accordance with the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) .S/he will coordinate and manage multiple and/or complex clinical research studies conducted by PI(s) which may include grant-funded, industry sponsored, and investigator-initiated clinical research studies.       Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign-on bonuses, and relocation allowances. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.

      Pay Range: $118,670 - $167,000

      Summary:

      12.Interview named defendants who are Medical Center employees and other employees having relevant knowledge of the incidents in the Summons and Complaint within the limitations identified by Illinois case law.
      13.Examine medical records from other institutions.
      14.Formulate a detailed report of findings for use by outside defense counsel.
      15.Draft answers to interrogatories and submit materials requested in Notices to Produce and to establish a basis for actions taken by employees.
      16.Search for historical documents within the Medical Center to comply with Notices to Produce and to establish a basis for actions taken by employees.
      17.Verify employment status and current whereabouts of all defendants or potential defendants.
      18.Set reserves on assigned cases at semiannual Bordereau meetings in conjunction with General Counsel and outside defense counsel.
      19.Assist defense counsel at trial. Report trial events to the AVP of Risk Management and General Counsel daily.
      20.Contribute to settlement discussions and mediation sessions by providing opinions and analysis of key factors.
      21.Direct potential mediation candidates to Mediation Consultant and General Counsel. Attend mediation meetings and draft summary reports to President and Senior Vice Presidents.
      22.Direct formal written status reports to various excess insurance carriers on assigned claims, including an evaluation of liability, damages, settlement value, etc.
      23.Educate nursing, ancillary departments, house staff and medical staff on pertinent risk management issues.

    Summary:
    The Office of Risk Management is responsible for claims investigation and management and overseeing loss control activities for Rush University Medical Center, Johnston R. Bowman Health Center for the Elderly, Rush Oak Park Hospital, and all personnel named as insureds under the Medical Center’s Self Insurance Trust Fund Agreement. The Office of Risk Management also works directly with the Office of Legal Affairs and outside defense counsel. The Risk Manager will identify potential liability situations, investigate and manage those potential claims, as well as lawsuits and attorney’s liens. The Risk Manager RN will participate with the loss control activities in his/her assigned areas and as needed throughout the Medical Center. Additionally, the Risk Manager RN is responsible for initial screening and evaluation of patient/family/visitor complaints and coordinating with appropriate departments, physicians and personnel for resolution. This position’s objective is to reduce unplanned or unexpected financial loss to the Medical Center through identification, evaluation and reduction of the risk of patient injury associated with medical care, as well as visitor injuries as well as to minimize loss through effective claims handling pursuant to the terms of the Medical Center’s Self Insurance Program.     Required Job Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) with three years of clinical nursing experience and a knowledge of the clinical care of patients.
    • Experience within the health care industry and risk management.
    • RN license in the state of Illinois.
    • PR certification.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Preferred Job Qualifications:
    • Previous experience with summarizing and analyzing medical records.

    Responsibilities:
    1.Analyze coded Unusual Occurrence Reports.
    2.Scrutinize attorney requests for records received by the Medical Records Department.
    3.Evaluate telephone reports/correspondence from physicians, nurses, hospital personnel, patients and visitors regarding incidents to determine liability on behalf of the Medical Center.
    4.Execute a detailed review of potential liability claimants’ medical records
    5.Interview medical center employees having relevant knowledge of the incident (residents, nurses, other hospital personnel, attending physicians on the Medical Service Plans within the limitation identified by Illinois case law).
    6.Secure evidence (broken equipment, foreign bodies, faulty catheters, etc.).
    7.Indicate possibility of product liability. Report potential problems to manufacturers and FDA in accordance with the Safe Medical Device Act.
    8.Formulate written investigative reports for the Office of Risk Management and the Office of Legal Affairs, detailing analysis of medical facts, including determination of whether standards of care were breached, assessment of damages, and an opinion of the potential risk/liability for the Medical Center.
    9.Direct findings to the Director and General Counsel at weekly meetings with recommendations for management of potential claims.
    10.Notify potential claims to the excess insurance carriers, summarizing potential liability exposures
    11.Execute a detailed review and analysis of the plaintiff’s medical record.
    12.Interview named defendants who are Medical Center employees and other employees having relevant knowledge of the incidents in the Summons and Complaint within the limitations identified by Illinois case law.
    13.Examine medical records from other institutions.
    14.Formulate a detailed report of findings for use by outside defense counsel.
    15.Draft answers to interrogatories and submit materials requested in Notices to Produce and to establish a basis for actions taken by employees.
    16.Search for historical documents within the Medical Center to comply with Notices to Produce and to establish a basis for actions taken by employees.
    17.Verify employment status and current whereabouts of all defendants or potential defendants.
    18.Set reserves on assigned cases at semiannual Bordereau meetings in conjunction with General Counsel and outside defense counsel.
    19.Assist defense counsel at trial. Report trial events to the AVP of Risk Management and General Counsel daily.
    20.Contribute to settlement discussions and mediation sessions by providing opinions and analysis of key factors.
    21.Direct potential mediation candidates to Mediation Consultant and General Counsel. Attend mediation meetings and draft summary reports to President and Senior Vice Presidents.
    22.Direct formal written status reports to various excess insurance carriers on assigned claims, including an evaluation of liability, damages, settlement value, etc.
    23.Educate nursing, ancillary departments, house staff and medical staff on pertinent risk management issues.
    24.Contribute articles to the Health Law Reporter regarding risk management concerns.
    25.Recognize incident trends and loss control activities with concentration to specific assigned areas.
    26.Participate in the Performance Improvement process.
