      Job Summary:
      The Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) is an entry-level, pathways position that provides foundational support to clinical research teams. Under close supervision, the CRA assists with essential study tasks such as organizing regulatory files, entering participant information, preparing materials for study visits, and observing study procedures for training. This role supports minimal to moderate risk studies, including exempt or expedited protocols, and is not assigned to clinical trials. The CRA gains exposure to research coordination through guided hands-on experience, with a focus on accuracy, organization, and team collaboration. This position serves as a learning opportunity for those interested in growing into independent clinical research roles.       Job Responsibilities:

      2.Collects and enters non-clinical data (e.g., demographics, visit logs) into data tracking tools or EDC systems under supervision; may help scan or organize forms.
      3.Supports submission packet assembly and document routing for IRB or regulatory submissions under the direction of CRC I or II; not authorized to submit independently.
      4.Files study documents, maintains logs (e.g., training, screening), and assists with organization of source documentation in binders or shared drives.
      5.Not involved in specimen collection. May assist with labeling, inventory, or shipment preparation under CRC supervision.
      6.May observe assessments for training; assists with room setup, form preparation, or equipment handoff before and after participant encounters.
      7.Drafts basic emails, participant reminders, or visit confirmations; communicates updates to CRC team but not to sponsors or IRBs.
      8.Maintains file accuracy for audit readiness; supports CRCs in preparing monitoring visit materials. May take notes during visits.
      9.Not responsible for reporting safety events but may help gather timeline data or document history under guidance.
      10.Participates in routine team meetings; may suggest logistical improvements based on daily task experience.

      Pulmonary Critical Care/Adult ICU Advanced Practice Provider

      Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Pulmonary Critical Care/Adult ICU Advanced Practice Provider.

      This provider will join a team of both physicians and APPs on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule that provides 24/7 care to critically ill medical patients at the Rush main campus. This opportunity will require an anticipated 12-14 shifts per month. APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will be required to perform a number of procedures including central line placements, paracentesis and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties.

       

      Department/division specs

      • There are more than 400 APPs employed across the Rush system. The AICU team is fully staffed with 9 APPs.
      • We work closely with many departments (palliative care, hepatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, etc.) as part of a multidisciplinary approach in the ICU.

      Duties & Responsibilities:

      · We require 12-14 shifts per month on a rotating basis. Some holidays and weekends will be required.

      · The AICU is a 28-bed unit that is staffed by both medical and surgical ICU teams.

      · This position is 100% inpatient.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      · Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in the ICU is strongly preferred. Relevant RN experience may be considered.

      · APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification.

      Position Requirements:

      Nurse Practitioner:

      • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
      • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
      • Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)

APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will be required to perform a number of procedures including central line placements, paracentesis and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties.

           

          Department/division specs

          • There are more than 400 APPs employed across the Rush system. The AICU team is fully staffed with 9 APPs.
          • We work closely with many departments (palliative care, hepatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, etc.) as part of a multidisciplinary approach in the ICU.

          Duties & Responsibilities:

          · We require 12-14 shifts per month on a rotating basis. Some holidays and weekends will be required.

          · The AICU is a 28-bed unit that is staffed by both medical and surgical ICU teams.

                Required Job Qualifications:
                •Associate of Science Degree in a relevant science OR High School/GED diploma with a minimum of two years of microtomy or histological technique work experience
                •HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) or eligible
                •Minimally cut 30-35 blocks per hour daily. Meets turnaround time expectations for specimen processing 90% of the time.
                Preferred Job Qualifications:
                •Certification as an HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)
                WORKING CONDITIONS:
                •Able to work in fast paced, often stressful, computerized environment.
                •Able to lift 20 lbs and perform repetitive motions. Works in laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious and hazardous materials.
                ASCP QUALIFICATION FOR TESTING:
                Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform moderate complexity testing. Employees' education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements delineated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1996.

                Responsibilities:
                •Utilizes required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by the lab area.
                •Follows all required safety procedures.
                •Ensures all testing is performed following Rush approved policies and procedures.
                •Disinfects work area at the beginning and end of each shift.
                •Maintains a clean, clutter free and well-organized area of responsibility, which includes cleaning of microtome, emptying water bath, filling blocks, and preparation of new solutions as defined by rotation schedule.
                •Utilizes time effectively and seeks out additional job duties when shift tasks are complete.
                •Uses computers and laboratory equipment according to established protocols.
                •Follows Lab Information System downtime procedures as required.
                •Adheres to the defined allotted time for breaks and lunch.
                •Obtains and documents 12 hours of laboratory continuing education annually.
                •Meets all departmental and laboratory required proficiency and competency requirements annually.
                •Accepts and/or volunteers for method evaluations, new procedure development, or other special projects. Completes them within the agreed upon time frame.
                •Serves as a technical expert for other laboratory staff.
                •Participates in procedure implementation and training of new staff and students.
                •Serves as owner of a quality assurance process.
                •Proposes new ideas and modifications to existing practices and/or workflows for quality and/or process improvement.
                •Processes and labels specimens accurately, being conscientious to avoid errors.
                •Embeds tissue cassettes and sections paraffin blocks with accuracy and quality.
                •Performs H&E and other special stains according to established protocols.
                •Performs required quality control (QC) procedures and preventative maintenance, including corrective action and documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation.
                •Performs troubleshooting on quality problems or discrepancies to determine the root cause of problems
                •Performs troubleshooting of equipment and processes with minimal assistance, documents action and notifies supervisor or designee, of all problems all of the time.
                •Recognizes acceptable specimens. Documents all specimen issues, whether related to processing, embedding or sectioning on the problem log. Notifies supervisor or designee of any issues related to a mishandling of specimen.
