      Summary:

      • Assists in looking up information to answer general information questions. Refers questions regarding drug information or patient specific questions to a pharmacist.
      • Ensures the I.V. preparation room and related equipment are cleaned, calibrated and maintained per organizational policy and procedure.
      • Updates/revises patient inventory usage numbers in the computer based on actual usage, change in orders, and communication with other team members.
      • Remains alert to customer needs and provides prompt, courteous customer service.
      • Responds to and resolves patient/customer problems in an appropriate and timely fashion using proper channels.
      • Maintains work area in an organized and orderly fashion, including facing of shelves and returning medications to shelves.

      Position & service specifications:

      • Practice in a nationally ranked academic medical center with strong quality and research initiatives
      • Practice alongside seven transplant surgeons and three fellow inpatient APPs

      • Report directly to the Transplant Service Line Lead APP

      Position Requirements:

      Nurse Practitioner:

      • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process

        Rush’s Chair of Internal Medicine is a clinical and academic leader that will report directly and primarily to the Dean of Rush Medical College. Chairs serve at the discretion of the Dean and are accountable for the academic, clinical, research, educational, and financial performance of their departments in alignment with the mission and strategic priorities of Rush. 

        Chairs are expected to operate with a system-wide perspective, advancing departmental goals while supporting enterprise priorities across the main campus, regional hospitals, and ambulatory sites. Chairs are accountable for outcomes across all missions and are expected to exercise leadership beyond departmental boundaries in service of system-wide goals.

      • Chairs are responsible for the quality, integration, and strategic advancement of educational programs within their departments and share accountability for educational outcomes and accreditation standards.

          Chairs collaborate with the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education to support medical student education, curriculum integration, assessment, and innovation. Chairs ensure faculty engagement in teaching and alignment with educational frameworks and institutional curricular priorities. 
        • Graduate Medical Education (GME): 
          Chairs work closely with the Vice Dean for Graduate Medical Education to oversee residency and fellowship programs, including recruitment, accreditation, evaluation, and program quality. Chairs are responsible for appropriate trainee supervision, educational experience, and alignment of training programs with system clinical needs.

      • The Chair plays a vital role in advancing the philanthropic mission of the institution by actively partnering with the Office of Philanthropy to identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships. Additionally, there are 124 Internal Medicine Residents and 112 Fellows.

         The Chair provides oversight and strategic direction for a wide array of department subspecialties, including:

        Chairs work in close partnership with the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs to:

        The Chair is also responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive succession planning strategies for key faculty and staff leadership positions within the department. This includes identifying high-potential individuals, providing mentorship and leadership development opportunities, and ensuring continuity of departmental operations and strategic initiatives through thoughtful preparation for future transitions.

      • Chairs are responsible for the quality, integration, and strategic advancement of educational programs within their departments and share accountability for educational outcomes and accreditation standards.

          Chairs collaborate with the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education to support medical student education, curriculum integration, assessment, and innovation.         • Graduate Medical Education (GME):

        Summary:

        Required Job Qualifications:
        •High school diploma/GED required.
        •Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA required (includes principles and techniques of injections and medication administration) required upon hire.
        •Graduates of a Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program are required to obtain Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA required within six months of hire.
        •Current CPR certification required upon start date.
        •Computer skills.
        •Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
        •Excellent customer service skills.
        •Excellent organizational skills.
        Preferred Job Qualifications:
        •One year clinical experience.
        •Phlebotomy experience.
        •Epic Ambulatory experience.

        Responsibilities:
        1.Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
        2.Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required.
        3.Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.
        4.Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures.
        5.Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit.
        6.Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit.
        7.Performs basic lab and testing procedures according to standards.
        8.Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.
        9.Administers immunizations as ordered by Physician.
        10.Administers RUMG approved intramuscular or subcutaneous medications after competency has been assessed, verified and documented.
        11.Performs nebulizer treatments in the clinic setting after competency has been assessed, verified and documented.
        12.Performs Tuberculin skin testing upon the order of the Physician.
        13.Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients.
        14.Documents administration of over-the-counter medications and/or other medications in Epic per policy or protocol.
        15.Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.
        16.Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician.
        17.Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol.
        18.Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards.
        19.Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
        20.Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
        21.Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies.
        22.Maintains quality control for equipment.
        23.Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.
        24.Participates in quality improvement projects.
        25.Maintains compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and other regulatory bodies.
        26.May have Unit specific duties as needed.
