      Summary:
      The Assistant Mgr, Environmental Services is responsible for the effective supervision of daily and area specific Environmental Services activities. Serves and first level escalation point for issues/concerns, and monitors the daily work outcomes for EVS Specialist.       Responsibilities:
      · Oversee the financial aspects of the laboratory, which includes fiscal and flexible budget coordination and preparation; monitor and investigate monthly budget variances; prepare and report internal and peer comparison financial and performance indicators; maintain the charge description master; work closely with Finance to ensure proper billing, accounting, auditing, CPT coding, Medicare/Medicaid billing procedures and protocols are followed; assign pricing; negotiate capitated and fee-for-service contracts.
      · Act as RUMC's representative for the Rush System for Health Laboratory Committee; attend these meetings and communicate progress/issues to the Laboratory Director; meet with vendors as necessary to negotiate system contracts.

    Responsibilities:
    Reviews, collects and properly records demographic and insurance information required to properly address the customers' authorization requirements and identify any financial issues. Verifies patient’s eligibility from resources provided by third party payers and portals and other on lines services.
    2.Collects and analyzes demographic, insurance and other information from the patient, guarantor and all other sources to accurately obtain authorization for scheduled procedure.
    3.Assembles information concerning the patient’s clinical background and clinical information that is required for the payer to issue a referral or an authorization. Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to the payer.
    4.Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, CPT codes and clinical notes. Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and professional service providers.
    5.Performs registration functions consistent with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy and security Regulations, as well as JACHO.
    6.Consistently maintains authorization accuracy rates at and or above department standard in performance of registration and authorization duties.
    7. Customers. Able to find resolution within the phone interaction satisfactory to the caller and/or having the knowledge when to escalate to their supervisor.
    8.Interacts and collaborates with numerous departments to resolve issues while also analyzing necessary information that will ensure hospital reimbursement.
    9.Appropriately informs the patients of hospital policies that govern the revenue cycle, the amount owed by the patients and explains hospital payment policy. Offers option of Financial Counselors to assist in acceptable resolution of estimated patient balance.
    10.Receives and properly responds to, or directs telephone and electronic inquiries from patients, payers, physicians and their staff, internal department and other persons and entities. Ability to exercise good customer service skills when communicating with both our patients as well as our internal customers. Able to find resolution within the phone interaction satisfactory to the caller and/or having the knowledge when to escalate to their supervisor.
    11.Performs other duties as assigned for the operational effectiveness and success of the department.
    12.Interacts and collaborates with numerous departments to resolve issues while also analyzing necessary information that will ensure hospital reimbursement.
    13.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Rush University Medical Center’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.     14.Attends regular EPIC training sessions or other sessions conducted for the benefit of associates involved in the Financial Counseling functions.

    Summary:
    The Administrative Director is responsible for the development, monitoring and leadership of the financial, marketing, information systems and client services policies and procedures of the clinical laboratory. The Administrative Director works closely with the Chairman of Pathology, the Laboratory Directors, Laboratory Managers and supervisory staff. The Administrative Director may be required to act as the Laboratory Director in the Director's absence.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education: B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent; B.A. in Business or M.B.A. desirable.
    Experience: A minimum of seven years in a laboratory management role.

    REPORTS TO:
    Director, Rush Medical Laboratories (RML)
    Chairman, Department of Pathology

    Responsibilities:
    · Oversee the financial aspects of the laboratory, which includes fiscal and flexible budget coordination and preparation; monitor and investigate monthly budget variances; prepare and report internal and peer comparison financial and performance indicators; maintain the charge description master; work closely with Finance to ensure proper billing, accounting, auditing, CPT coding, Medicare/Medicaid billing procedures and protocols are followed; assign pricing; negotiate capitated and fee-for-service contracts.
    · Act as RUMC's representative for the Rush System for Health Laboratory Committee; attend these meetings and communicate progress/issues to the Laboratory Director; meet with vendors as necessary to negotiate system contracts.
    · Act as the Department of Pathology and Rush Medical Laboratories' representative for the Rush Health Associates Contract Implementation Team; ensure smooth operation of the laboratory's testing, reporting and billing for these contracts; work with team members to establish package pricing for carve out services.
    · Provide leadership to the Client Services area; meet with clients and potential clients as needed; work closely with the staff to ensure efficient and cost-effective service to clients.
    · Prepare marketing strategies and data as required.
    · Provide leadership to the Laboratory Information System; ensure all financial and billing functions of the system are operating correctly; keep current with new information system technology and implement when appropriate.
    · Be available to the laboratory staff to receive information and address any matters in a timely and appropriate manner; attend and participate in laboratory staff and management meetings on a regular basis.
    · Work closely with the Director, Laboratory Managers and supervisory staff in developing, updating and monitoring the achievement of long-range goals and objectives for the Department of Pathology and Rush Medical Laboratories.
    · Participate as needed in the provision of continuing education and in-service programs for the staff.
    · Serve as an instructor of Rush University; prepare and give formal management related lectures to the medical technology students and/or pathology residents; be available to mentor and advise Health Systems Management students on specific projects or assignments.
    · Be available to act as the Department of Pathology and Rush Medical Laboratories' representative on any RUMC, RUMG, RU, RSH or other appropriate committee, sub-committee or task force.
    · Perform other reasonable and appropriate duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Laboratory Director.

    · Be an advocate for the laboratories.
    · Work well with other departments and healthcare providers to insure the best possible patient care.
