      Summary:
      Job Summary:
      Reporting to the Rush Supportive Oncology Manager of Integrative Medicine, the Oncology Exercise Specialist (OES) will provide cancer exercise and education for patients receiving care at the Rush Cancer Center. The OES is deeply familiar with evidence-based exercise practices for the oncology population; provides safe and high-quality care for each individual patient; and performs designated duties consistent within their scope of practice.
      The OES demonstrates the highest level of personal and professional commitment, enthusiasm, and integrity representing Supportive Oncology within Rush; and will exemplify the Rush mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

      Required Job Qualifications:
      •Master’s degree in exercise physiology or a related field required
      •Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical setting
      •Personal trainer certification from an accredited organization required (i.e., American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
      •American College of Sports Medicine Cancer Exercise Trainer Certification (ACSM/ACS-CET) required

      Responsibilities:

      •Creates evidence-based tailored programming to help cancer patients regain strength, flexibility, and mobility.
      •Provides safe, effective, and appropriate exercise evaluation, individual and small group exercise programming for Rush cancer patients in a hybrid format in the Rubschlager Supportive Oncology suite and virtually.
      •Updates plan of care and exercise program based on the patient’s response to intervention. Demonstrates timely adjustments based on changes in patient status and/or needs – including, but not limited to, contraindications and precautions.
      •Creates and facilitates patient and provider-facing cancer exercise education/programs.
      •Charts clinical work in our electronic medical health software with clear, effective medical terminology in SOAP note format according to standards outlined by Rush University Medical Center.
      •Completes EPIC documentation of every patient encounter within 24 hours of patient appointment.
      •Creates and maintains a comfortable, safe, and clean therapeutic environment.
      •Demonstrates self-directed, compassionate, and professional bedside manner.
      •Performs clinical tasks (e.g., responding to MyChart messages, phone calls) in a timely manner.
      •Attends meetings with Manager of Integrative Medicine and Supportive Oncology

  • Collects and enters non-clinical data (e.g., demographics, visit logs) into data tracking tools or EDC systems under supervision; may help scan or organize forms.
  • Supports submission packet assembly and document routing for IRB or regulatory submissions under the direction of CRC I or II; not authorized to submit independently.
  • Files study documents, maintains logs (e.g., training, screening), and assists with organization of source documentation in binders or shared drives.
  • Not involved in specimen collection. May assist with labeling, inventory, or shipment preparation under CRC supervision.
  • May observe assessments for training; assists with room setup, form preparation, or equipment handoff before and after participant encounters.
  • Drafts basic emails, participant reminders, or visit confirmations; communicates updates to CRC team but not to sponsors or IRBs.
  • Maintains file accuracy for audit readiness; supports CRCs in preparing monitoring visit materials. May take notes during visits.
  • Not responsible for reporting safety events but may help gather timeline data or document history under guidance.
  • Participates in routine team meetings; may suggest logistical improvements based on daily task experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
