      Summary:
      Supervises the technical operations of the laboratory, including resource and personnel management. This position is responsible for performing all assigned laboratory testing and reporting for the testing area. Demonstrates proficiency in identifying and resolving process issues that affect the laboratory's ability to perform laboratory testing. Serves as an expert within the assigned field of responsibility. Instructs students, residents, new employees, and their direct reports. Evaluates their performance within established deadlines.       •Education: Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in relevant science required
      •A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the specific laboratory discipline the role oversees is required. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of leading projects, implementing programs, and serving as a subject matter expert within a laboratory setting.

        Other information:
        • High school diploma/GED required.
        • Current PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required and/or EXCPT
        • Individuals licensed BEFORE January 1, 2008 are grandfathered; they are not required to become nationally certified or hold the "Certified" designation to continue working as a registered pharmacy technician in Illinois.
        • Completion of an ACPE/ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program if licensed on or after January 1, 2024.
        • Listed below is the required training program/hours that need to be completed
        ACPE/ASHP accredited training
        •500 hours of on the job training that covers items 1-6 of Section 17.1 of the PPA

        1.The duties and responsibilities of the technicians and pharmacists.
        2.Tasks and technical skills, policies, and procedures.
        3.Compounding, packaging, labeling, and storage.
        4.Pharmaceutical and medical terminology.
        5.Record keeping requirements.
        6.The ability to perform and apply arithmetic calculations.
        •500 hours of training (work experience and didactic) outlined in section 1330.215 of the rules
        • Individual must have PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification or ability to achieve by second license renewal.
        • Ability to effectively follow directions, analyze problems, and interpret analytical data.
        • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service skills.
        • Accountable for own actions, progress, and development.
        • Employees need to be able to work extended hours due to business needs.
        • This position may require up to 10% travel.
        • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the ""core"" work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 37.5 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
        Preferred Qualifications:
        •Completion of an ACPE/ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program if licensed on or after January 1, 2024.
        Physical Demands:
        • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
        • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
        • This job operates in a professional office setting: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

        Responsibilities:
        • Active participation in the Pharmacy Department Technician Career Ladder.
        • Recognizes and identifies various classifications of medications, medication names, dosage forms, and routes of administration.
        • Uses available print and online references as appropriate.
        • Understands the pharmacy workflow for first doses, Pyxis refills, cart fill and batches.
        • Understands the pharmacy workflow for medication returns and medication disposal.
        • Responsible for the accurate interpretation of EPIC pharmacy labels.
        • Interpretation and understanding of medical abbreviations.
        • Identification and differentiation of different types of medication orders (Scheduled, PRN, Once, STAT, NOW).
        • Appropriately labels all medication dosage forms including auxiliary labels for expiration and storage as required.
        • Responsible for the accurate and timely filling and delivery of patient-specific medications and Pyxis restocks.
        • Ability to troubleshoot Pyxis equipment (i.e.: failed drawers, inventory, outdates).
        • Ability to utilize technology in the pharmacy including, but not limited to Carousels, DoseEdge, Pharmacy Ideas, WASP, MILT, and RxVerify as needed for assigned duties.
        • Responsible for the preparation of non-sterile compounding and packaging.
        • Accurately draws up oral syringes and compound oral suspensions.
        • Recognizes the regulations for repackaging medications and complies with all required labeling and documentation procedures for non-sterile compounding and packaging.
        • Responsible for answering phones, assisting caller with missing medication requests, and any other technical duties as assigned.
        • Responsible for utilization of Epic for technical requests (i.e.: missing medications, Pyxis out of stock, and responding to in-basket messages).
        • Responsible for inventory, storage, and supply maintenance of assigned areas.
        • Responsible for exchanging emergency carts and completion of required documentation.
        • Responsible for knowing the laws and regulations related to controlled substances.
        • Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
        • Knowledge of departmental and Medical Center safety practices.
        • Awareness of departmental quality assurance processes.
        • Actively participates in various departmental committees and educational activities as assigned.
        • Any and all other duties as assigned.
        • Interacts professionally and appropriately with other healthcare professionals and RUMC employees.
        • Demonstrates ability to coach/train other technicians and pharmacy students.
        • Demonstrates communication, professional knowledge and technical skill, continuous learning and exhibits a passion for the Rush Mission, Vision and Values according to the Department of Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder expectations.
