      Pay Range: $21.61 - $34.04 per hour

      Summary:
      The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist directly contributes to the integrity and accuracy of a patient’s medical record while working at an on-site (hospital campus) location. The Health Information Management Specialist provides high-level professional support to the Health Information Management Department, Patients, Revenue Cycle and all Rush entities. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

      Required Job Qualifications:
      •High School Graduate
      •2+ years of health information management (HIM) department or medical records experience
      •Proficient with medical terminology
      •Proficient and functional knowledge Microsoft office (outlook, word, excel, Teams)
      •Proficient and functional knowledge of basic office equipment (phone, copier, scanner, fax machine)
      •High-level of organization, independence, and critical thinking
      •Excellent written and oral communication skills along with problem-solving
      •High degree of accuracy and ability to collaborate with others
      Preferred Job Qualifications
      •AAPC or AHIMA certification
      •Experience with OnBase Scanning software
      •Associates degree

      Responsibilities:
      •Use logic-based critical thinking and decision-making to accurately prep, scan, catalog, import, and enter incoming forms to the medical record.
      •Check and troubleshoot document quality control issues to ensure a legible medical record
      •Understand and keep patient sensitive information protected per all applicable federal, state, and local guidelines, including HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act) for medical records processing and requests.
      •Respond to and provide pertinent information to facilitate patient transfers in a timely manner
      •Triages and provides excellent patient and internal/external customer service (via phone, in-person, or by electronic means) inquiries and on-time delivery of records to patients, payors, or approved outside entities
      •Collaborate with Release of Information vendor to meet medical records requests
      •Utilizes equipment and software applications to locate and reproduce electronic, paper, film, or scanned medical records
      •Validate and make accuracy-enhancing adjustments to individual patient medical records
      •Retrieve medical records from operational areas of the assigned hospital or clinical area
      •Serves as subject matter expert for fellow team members to review questions and assist with resolving issues related to document scanning, medical record adjustments, and patient/customer service.
      •Meets or exceeds accuracy, quality work, on-time delivery, and productivity standards
      •Provides input and implements process improvement initiatives recognizing efficiency, prevention of errors, and accuracy enhancement including how to harness technology and automation to optimize efficiency
      •Maintain office equipment per manufacturers recommendations
      •Monitor and work accounts in Epic Health Information Management work queues, as assigned
      •Communicate, observe, and report on medical record trends and patterns and provide recommendations for improvement
      •Engage in continuing education and training in the health information management field and other duties or projects assigned
      •Contribute to a positive culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence (ICare Values).
